You Make it Hurt so Good

It was a typical spring week, here at the Scheu abode. The weather was whacky, the kids were busy and our bodies were ailing. The flowering trees are absolutely gorgeous, but so short-lived. The grass is greener than it will ever be the rest of the year and those darned little dandelions are just beginning to pop up. I think for the first time ever, our yard has fewer yellow critters than any of our neighbors! I spent the week struggling to find a way to do my normal routine with a sore back, Ann couldn’t catch a break with her body this week, Matt continued to study hard at college, Abby prepped for dance competitions and ran constantly with her friends and Luke focused on track.
Monday was the kids’ first day back to school after two weeks. Abby drove Luke again this week – it is so nice. I returned to work but didn’t make it the whole day and had to come home to ice my back. Ann finally talked me in to making an appointment with the orthopedist, but the soonest is next week. Ann took the day off to play with Shawna. Luke had track practice after school and Abby had jazz class at Dixon Studio.
We had a frost warning overnight and in to Tuesday morning, meaning we had to warm-up the cars to defrost the windshields before work & school. Ann had another doctor appointment and will need to have yet another surgery – poor thing. Abby went tanning after school. Luke had track practice after school. Whatever is wrong with my back is now focused on my thigh, making it twitch constantly and my knee ache. It makes the muscle feel like I just ran a marathon and cramps constantly. I came home after lunch to ice my back and nod off on the couch while watching the new Star Wars movie with the dogs and then with Abby. Ann worked late and we met her at Chili’s for dinner. Afterwards she ran Luke over to Hibbett’s for a couple new pairs of cleats – we can’t keep him in pants or shoes right now due to growing so much! Here are some miscellaneous photos from this week: Matt saying good-bye to Mom; a collage of the pix I sent to Dad for his house; Heidi’s wedding announcement; Luke mowing the backyard; the wicked storm clouds that blew through this week; the stupid placement of the Road Closed barrier on 46; Luke & I out running errands; one of the dresses Bu tried on this weekend – but not “the one”; and then Bu with “the one” (no peeking yet!) for her big day…

I left early again on Wednesday to ice my back. Ann hurt her knee again and wanted to come home but found a way to work from her office. Abby worked at DDS with Molly’s team that evening. Luke had track practice after school. It was warmer but with it came storms. In fact it rained and stormed overnight, bringing cooler air again. It was good to talk with Dad B on the phone that night and catch up. We hope to see him some time soon; we miss him & Lynn dearly.
It stormed on and off all day on Thursday. I made it most of the day at work but still ended up leaving a little early. It was Dad B’s birthday, who turned 68. I sure hope I am doing as well as he is when I get to be his age…not that he’s that old… Ann had doctor appointments all day, it seemed. She finally got a little good news but still needs interventions to get her body healthy again. Luke had track practice inside due to the storms. Abby & Ann went to Dixon that night for tap class. Abby had friends over a few times that night. At one point she had a group of eight over and we had them join us in calling Dad to sing happy birthday. Unfortunately we only got his voicemail, so we hope he got the message and enjoyed the serenade (it was not the death-march version!). We love ya, Pop!
Friday morning, we received a phone call from our neighbors that Ed had fallen again and needed help getting up. We all responded without hesitation and took care of him. I made it the entire day at work finally – and even stayed a little late to get caught back up. Luke dud not have track due to the junior high dance, which was right after school (what fun is that??). He had planned to attend but I guess not enough of his buddies went so he ended up not going and instead got pizza with Gma & Gigi and Susan & Casey. Abby went out with Brit & the boys. Luke & I grabbed Koch’s carryout and ate dinner with Ann, who was exhausted and bruised from all the needles and excitement of the last few days. She keeps teasing me that she is telling friends and co-workers that I am abusing her because of her neck and arms are all black & blue! Abby had Britney & Megan stay the night. And it was the 40th anniversary of my favorite album of all time’s release – Rush’s 2112. We have lots of new social media pictures to share this week: Abby & Molly with Megan & Brittany; my Smith cousins and their kids; Allen; my Scheu cousins; more Smith cousins; my Timm cousins; Aunt Karen w/ Camille; Purdue basketball wrapping up; me doing my monthly rounds in a wheel chair due to my back; Katie & fam in Colorado; Kathy in WDW again; Tammie & friends; meme for Abby’s potential BFs; Calvin & Hobbes panels; Monica; Aunt June; Kate & Jake; the Sipes are moving again; the Bewley’s in Hawaii; Target has their spring HWs out; Trunk has a new show; a couple of t-shirts I thought were pretty cool and a couple of Bu and her buddies.

We enjoyed sleeping in a little, realizing that it could be the last weekend we have off in a while. Luke & I ran errands and went over to the Armory to meet up with Bryan for the GYBL Major League draft. However, it ended up getting postponed due to adding a 4th team and needing more coaches. Hopefully some more kids will get signed up so we can expand to even more teams. Who knows, perhaps we can even work out some exhibition games with the Titans team, if they have a 12U team this year. Neither Bryan nor I have gotten any phone calls, so not sure what their status is this year. We came back home and did yard work and serviced the automobiles. There was a wind advisory all day and it was very blustery. Luke ended up mowing in his coat. There was wind damage all over the state, but we made it through unscathed. Luke & I ended up going out for lunch and doing a little HW hunting in Columbus. Meanwhile, the girls went out of state to go prom dress shopping and finally found one they liked down in Lexington at Miss Priss. Abby got her PSAT results back and she did very well. She scored an overall 1120 (wow!) – placing her in the 84th percentile! Way to go, Bu!! Her folks are very proud of that beautiful young lady… We had hoped to meet up with our long lost friends, the Messers, but that didn’t work out and we ended up spending a quiet night on the couch, icing our bodies and napping while watching a few movies (Star Wars (again), The Mechanic and The Martian). Abs went out with some of her South friends and then came home with Megan. Alex came over late and Megan spent the night again.
We slept in till mid-morning on Sunday. We slowly got motivated to get up and do our weekly household chores. It was a beautiful day but very cold. There was a freeze warning overnight and it did not get very warm that morning, but at least the sun was out and it eventually got in to the 60s by early evening. We took it easy, cleaning up around the house, taking naps and watching the Netflix and the Martinsville race (one of my favorite tracks). Ann made a big lunch and we had Mom & Sandy over to eat. Ann also planned to make a nice dinner, grilling out steaks and such. However, right in the middle of prepping she received a reminder that she had an After-Prom meeting. She and Shawna are again heading up this huge effort for the kids this year. However they had both forgotten their meeting and rushed around at the minute to get to it. :0) Later that evening, the kids took Betty White out and got ice cream. I think it might be the first time Abby has driven the truck. When Ann finally got home, we watched the season finale of the Walking Dead and called it a week…
Next up is our Waybac segment that has been expanded this week due to not having enough new photos as well as having some great photos we salvaged when we moved Mom O a couple weeks ago. Leading off this week we have a picture of Christmas in 1993 – ones I didn’t know existed and a memory I don’t have any recollection of – with Ann at her house old house on Main St (pix include Gigi, Gma, Santa Chad & Dee); then on to our happy Matthew in May 1996 in his room in Columbus; then Matt up in Rossville at Mom & Dad’s Dream House in October 1996; next we head out to Westport to Dee & Chad’s first home in May 1997 for the Indy 500 (might be the year Matt burned his hand on Chad’s grill?); then Thanksgiving at our first Greensburg home in November 1997; next we head to Springtime on Main St with Matt hanging out in the living room in May 1998; then Matt with Gma and I up on the G’burg square for the annual Halloween costume contest in October 1998; next we find some new pix: Dee & Grace in July 2000; then December 2000 we have the sisters with Grace uptown, Grace meets Santa and all the cousins pose for a picture at Sears; then Easter in April 2001; another cousin pic in December 2001; Matt school pic in September 2002; Gracie in 2002; Megan in 2002; gma w/ Megan in August 2003; Matt in Sept 2003; Megan in 2003; Easter in April 2004; Mom & Megan in East Aurora in August 2004 and Mom O on Dee & Jamie’s wedding day in September 2011.

Next up is our video segment which includes no new family movies but several videos from around the internet.

And that does it for this week’s installment of the Scheu Family Blog. Thanks for keeping up with us this time out and we’ll catch up with you again next time. Until then, have a good one. We miss ya, Mom.
Later, Scheu
