Before this Dance is Through…

Another week has blurred past us… Matt stopped in for a minute. Abby had her final dance competition of her junior year. It sounds weird to know that the next time we see her at a dance competition, she will be a senior. Luke prepped for his first track meet and played in his second AAU basketball tourney. We’re still waiting to hear about baseball, which should’ve started last week, I think. Ann finally felt better and enjoyed some relief from her knees. And I got in seventeen miles of walking this week as I continue to work toward my goal of a half marathon this summer. Hello again and welcome back to the Scheu Family Blog.
The week started off overcast but otherwise perfect on Monday. Abby was still not feeling well so Ann took her to see Dr Fangman who got her some meds and gave her the day off to rest. Bu slept for several hours then went to technique class before bringing Trevin over to study. Matt had breakfast with Gma & Gigi then headed back up to school. Luke had track practice after school then attended his Winter Sports Banquet where he was recognized with the 7th grade A-team basketball squad. Thank you to Gigi for taking pictures and Memaw for her support as well. Ann worked on After Prom stuff that night. I walked miles after work on a beautiful 60-degree afternoon. I talked to Dad B and watched the National Championship game – it promised to be a good one with the #1 NC vs. #1 Gonzaga…and I didn’t even make it to halftime. The next morning, I saw that the Tar Heels won by like 5.

Tuesday was another long day at work for Ann & I. I got in another three miles after work on another gorgeous afternoon. Luke again had track but then went to the Y for a basketball workout. After school, Abby worked at BWR until late that night. And I was saddened to hear that the Cowboy’s Tony Romo retired from the NFL and tentatively plans to become an announcer for CBS and replace Phil Simms.
Wednesday saw a change in the weather. It was another long day at work. I managed to walk 3 more miles after work but it rained. It wasn’t too bad until the very end of my walk when it really started coming down. Ann worked at both offices and then held an After Prom meeting before going to the dance studio to prep for this weekend’s final dance competition with Abby. Luke went to school then track, which got cut short due to thunderstorms. They actually saw hail in Greensburg before we got back in to town. We picked up Luke from Mom & Sandy’s house. Abby worked at DDS then hung around to attend her jazz class. Here are random pictures from this week.

It rained continuously overnight and well in to Thursday. As the rain fell, so did the temperatures and we started the day in the low 40s. We even had to warm up the cars before work and school for the first time in a while. I walked three miles in a very strong wind. It even knocked my fat ass back a pace or two a couple of times during my workout. Memaw had some successful procedures done and was able to come back home later that day. Luke had basketball practice for a couple hours at the high school. Thanks to Bu for helping us out with transports that night. Abby & Ann did “girl stuff” that evening by going out to eat at Chili’s then went on to tap class at Dixon. We were saddened to hear that comedian Don Rickles died. President Trump dropped 50 tomahawk missiles on Syria after they used chemical weapons on their own citizens. It will probably be a few days before we begin to understand what type of fall-out will occur due to this action.
Friday was a very cold morning and we had to defrost the cars before school and work. It was yet another long day (I’m starting to sense a pattern). I walked another three miles after work. Luke had trouble with a kid at school. We’re a little surprised that we didn’t get a call from the administration for them to get ahead of the issue. He went to his final track practice before his first meet on Monday. Abby & Ann went to Shelbyville to get her prom dress resized. Matt came home for dinner (and I had a few well-deserved margaritas). Matt said good-bye after dinner then went off to IU for the weekend. Abby missed dinner to go out with her girlfriends that night. That night, I fell asleep early for some reason… We have lots of social media pictures to share again this week.

On Saturday, we took Luke to an AAU basketball tourney in Fishers at a nice facility called Best Choice Fieldhouse. In game 1 the boys faced the Legends 7 White and jumped out to a 10-point lead and lead by 20 points the rest of the game – winning 55-33. Luke looked more comfortable on the floor and the team played more cohesive. Luke played a little in the first half but played most of the second half. After an hour off, the boys played game 2 vs. the Indy Nets 2022. After being off for an hour, the kids came out flat and got down by 10 points right out of the gait. The boys made a couple runs but couldn’t quite catch up. Luke didn’t play much in the 1st half (maybe a minute?) and the boys went in to halftime down by ten. Luke again played most of the 2nd half and the boys made a late run, taking their first lead with less than a minute to play and the boys pulled out the victory, 51-48. Without officially watching the video, I seem to remember Luke scoring about 10 points and pulling in about 12 rebounds during his play today. I think he is finally feeling more a part of the team now. After a quick lunch at Steak & Shake, we came home to mow the lawn and do our weekly household chores until late.

We were up way too early on Sunday morning for Abby’s final dance competition of the year. Star Systems returned to Pike High School Performing Arts Center in Zionsville. We took Mary & Trevin (who just barely got up and got ready!) with us. Meanwhile, Luke went back up to Fishers for the 2nd day of pool play and begin tourney play. Thanks to the Comers who took him for the day. Wouldn’t you know it…the boys won the whole darn tourney! Way to go, boys!! Meanwhile, the girls performed early in the day. First up was Abby’s tap performance of “We’re Not Gonna Take It” again and earning a 2nd place Elite High Gold. They only had 20 minutes off then Abby was right back on stage for her jazz routine “Show Me how You Burlesque” where they looked really good and earned a 1st place Elite High Gold and 3rd overall in their age category! Way to go, Bu! We will have pictures and video of Abby’s dance next week. We had a long wait after the 2nd dance before awards so we went for a late breakfast to Le Peep’s where we had a group of 14 and really enjoyed ourselves. We saw my cousin Chris and his wife Trish with their boys Jack & Joey, who were in the area for soccer tourneys. It was great to see them. After our meal, we went shopping at Target for a while before coming back to the school. While the girls went back in to watch the dances, I went walking a couple miles around the Pike campus. It was a really nice afternoon in the high 70s. After a very long awards ceremony, we tried to stop in and see Matt – whose apartment was just down the road. Unfortunately he was still in Bloomington seeing his buddies at IU. We stopped at Five Guys for a late lunch before coming on home. Bu & Trevin took the dogs out for a walk in the park while the rest of us flopped on the couch and relaxed. Ann made popcorn for a late dinner and we watched a couple movies (Monsters Inc and Office Christmas Party) before calling it a week.
Next up is our Waybac section which continues to feature our second six photo albums of our young family at the turn of the century at the Main St home. We lead off this week in March 1996 with Matt’s birth picture in Columbus; Matt’s 3rd bday in March 1999 on Main St; Abby’s birth in September 1999 in Columbus; Christmas Eve at Gma & Gigi’s in December 1999; Abby & Bailey in March 2000; Matt’s bday in March 2000 on Main St; Abby hanging out on Main St in April 2000; Matt riding his bike at the high school in April 2000; fun at Holiday World in April 2000; Matt taking pictures in the Main St home in September 2000; me at work in September 2000; Matt at pre-school at the YMCA in December 2000; and finally Easter on the square in April 2001.
