Look out my Window…It’s Still Rainin’

It was a wet week that dumped about 5??? of rain on our neck of the woods with all kinds of low-level flood warnings. It impacted our activities all week but thankfully it somehow cleared up in time for the big dance this weekend. And yes, another Prom – and all the drama and buildup that come along with it – has come and gone. The next time Abby goes, it will be her Senior Prom…how is that even possible? Ann and I continued to struggle with our aging bodies and the kids stayed busy with school and sports. Hello again and welcome back to the Scheu Family Blog.
After raining all night last night, we woke up to a cold start to the week (and month) on Monday with temps in the 40s. It honestly didn’t get a whole lot warmer the rest of the week. After school, Abby had technique class at Dixon then travelled to Columbus with Molly for some homework / project items before coming home and zonking out early. Luke had a chilly track practice after school then we went straight to baseball on a cold, windy night. Truthfully it was kind of a suck-y practice with only about half the team there (weenies!). I walked 3 miles after work then came home to coach baseball with Bryan and freeze our butts off. Ann made cheesy popcorn for dinner and we kept warm with the dogs on the couch that night. We joked that this is what our life will be like once the kids are out of the house! Here are some random pictures from this week’s fun…

Tuesday was another cool, blustery day. It was a fast day at work and we left early for Luke’s track meet, which meant I had no time for exercise. Ann & I drove an hour to Rushville to see Luke and the GJHS track meet. Luke threw shot put first and PR’ed with a 36’ 4??? throw – good enough for a 2nd place! Next it was on to discus that saw the boys throw into a ferocious wind. Luke never could quite get the hang of it and ended up finishing 3rd on a freezing afternoon. We really thought it might snow. Ann went with Abby to DDS for pictures and got her dance mom groove on. I picked up Luke & Anna from track and ran them out to Jimmy John’s, who was having a special $1 sub event – how cool! We dropped Anna off and came home to watch the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, which finally aired on HBO a couple days ago. Bu stayed at the dance studio after pictures for clogging practice, which she really enjoyed.

It rained all day on Wednesday. Luke had track practice, but we cancelled baseball due to the cold & rain. Abby had Trevin over and we took him to dinner for his birthday at ElRep (and celebrate Cinco de Mayo a little early). Meanwhile, Ann held her final After Prom meeting. Afterward, Abby & Ann met up at Dixon Dance for jazz class.
It was still raining on Thursday morning and it kept raining all day. Luke’s track meet got cancelled but they still had practice. Ann & I left work early to travel over to North Decatur and pick up items for After Prom. Abby had her nails done for Prom AFTER school then she and Ann went to the Dixon Dance Studio for tap pictures and practice. We have several social media pictures to share from this week…

Ann was off on Friday for last-minute work on After Prom setup at the Fieldhouse. Luke’s track practice was cancelled and Abby had no technique class. Instead, she went out to Prom Dinner with Trevin on a double date with Britney & Allan to Celestial Steakhouse in Cincy – very nice! I finally managed to walk 3 miles then met up with Ann at the Fieldhouse to see if she needed any help. She had it all covered and Luke & I grabbed dinner and came home to watch movies. We hurried to the Fieldhouse after work to try and get pictures of Bu & Trevin…but they had to get on the road, so we had to use a cell phone for pictures. Ann didn’t have to stay too late, thankfully, and managed to get to bed at a decent hour.

Saturday was Abby’s Prom day. It was cold that morning but at least the rain had FINALLY stopped! All week, we had been hearing that the forecast for today was going to be rainy, so this was a pleasant surprise. We did not get to sleep in as I ran out to the baseball diamonds at about 7:30 that morning. Although D1 looked better than it did last night, it was clearly still too wet to hold a practice on it, so we cancelled practice. Meanwhile, Bryan ran out and helped Ann at the Fieldhouse, where she was getting inspected by the Fire Marshal and setting up stuff. Big thanks to Bryan for all his help with After Prom this week! The girls got organized in the late morning and headed over to Columbus for Abby’s hair & makeup. Meanwhile, Luke & I got outside and mowed, grabbed lunch and came home to take the grill apart, clean it and put it back together. Now it works great. We got done in time to clean up and greet Mom & Sandy, who came over to go with us to take pictures of the kids. The girls took a little longer than they anticipated in Columbus and we got a late start to getting pictures. We started at home with corsages then ran next door to have pictures with Mary and friends. Next the kids ran to his grandparent’s house then we all went out to Allan’s house in the outskirts of the county with Britney. It was really pretty out there and we got some nice photos. We rushed back to help open up the Fieldhouse and then went to the elementary school to watch walk-ins. It was pretty chilly but at least it was dry! Abby was gorgeous and the walk-ins were not disappointing. Ann went to After Prom to get the rest of stuff set-up and open it up for the public to walk through. Luke & I went to dinner and came home to watch a movie again. After the big dance, Bu & Trevin met up with Ann at After Prom and didn’t get home till sometime after 4… We will have even more pictures from pre-Prom, Prom and After Prom next week…

We didn’t get a chance to sleep in on Sunday either. Ann went back in to clean up the Fieldhouse while I got up to start our weekly household chores and watch the final edition of The Sports Reporters…not sure what the hell ESPN is thinking by taking this show off the air? It’s been on for nearly 30 years and has been a staple of my Sunday mornings (that and Outside the Lines) for many, many years. In the late morning, Ann & I took the kids out to eat breakfast at Frisch’s Big Boy. Ann came home to take a well-deserved nap while the kids & I went to the park. Bu, Trev & I walk 3 miles while Luke played basketball and hung out with Tyler and Drew until the early evening. While Luke stayed out, the other two came home with me and we watched an old Disney movie called ‘Return to Oz’, the weekend NASCAR races and took naps. Later that evening, I ran out to the Fieldhouse with Betty White and helped the West’s get the rest of the stuff out that AP had borrowed and got it all back to St. Mary’s. Meanwhile, the kids ran to the store to get supplies and then came home and helped Ann cook dinner. It was delicious – cheeseburgers on the grill, pasta salad, tossed salad with Ann’s homemade Shallo’s dip – yum!
Next up is our Waybac segment which continues to feature old family pictures from the turn of the century during our time in the old Main St home. We lead off this week with Matt birth picture from CRH in March 1996; then on to Matt’s third bday party on Main St in March 1999; Abby’s birth at CRH in September 1999; Christmas Eve in December 1999 at Gma & Gigi’s house in Ryle; then Matt’s fourth bday party back on Main St in March 2000; Matt driving his HW Lamborghini at the high school in April 2000; then we head to Holiday World, down south in Santa Claus, in August 2000; Matt’s drawing after our camping & canoeing trip in September 2000; then we head over to WTRE to meet Santa in December 2000; and finally we head back to WTRE to color Easter Eggs in April 2001.

And that does it for this week’s entry of the Scheu Family Blog. Thanks for keeping up with us this time out and we’ll catch up with you again next time. Until then, have a good one. We miss ya, Mom.
Later, Scheu
