We’re Trav’lin’ Around…No time to Settle Down

It has been another busy week – even busier by our standards. Matt began his summer break…well it won’t be much of a break for him, but he did finish his junior year at U Indy on the A/B honor roll! Abby was all about dance when she wasn’t working or doing schoolwork. Luke finished up his track season with his final meet, began baseball season with his first game and even had a basketball tourney! Ann had a good week – despite her ailing knees. I walked 13 miles and felt pretty good about it, getting some of my fastest miles ever. Hello again and welcome back to the Scheu Family Blog.
It was back to work & school on Monday morning, but it was very slow going. There might’ve been some yelling between siblings, but I’ve pushed those memories from my mind. Ann had the day off to sleep in and get some well-deserved rest while returning everything borrowed for the After Prom event. Abby had technique class at Dixon. I walked three miles after work then met up with Bryan downtown at The Beach for a coaches meeting. Afterwards, we coached Luke & Drew’s opening night of baseball vs. the Greensburg Cubs. We were up by 8 twice but surrendered the lead both times and ended up at a 16-16 tie. We were not real happy with the umpires that night, who made several mistakes – but we didn’t say anything except to ourselves. Luke had 3 plate appearances and went 1-2 with a sacrifice, a single, a walk, an RBI, 4 stolen bases and 2 runs scored. He started at 3rd base since we were down 4 kids. He also played RF and pitched 1/3 of an inning. It wasn’t a stellar outing. He walked 5 and gave up 6 runs. In watching the video, we can see that his release point is completely off due to throwing shot put and will have to “re-learn” how to pitch.

We had a rainy start to Tuesday but it thankfully stopped about noon. However it was enough to cancel Luke’s baseball game that night – which was a good thing since we were down 4 boys again that night, including Luke. Matt came home that morning, planning to stay for about a week, so the family was whole again and all was right in the world. I had to go in early for our annual Omelet Day where we spent about 4 hours in the kitchen and created / served 45 made-to-order omelets for our employees! Big thanks to Philip and Dennis for all their help!! Abby had Student Council before school then went out with Matt afterwards for a late lunch before they both ended up in Aurora to watch Luke at the East Central Invitational. It was his final track meet of the year and was an 8-way invitational (basically our conference) made up of mostly 8th graders. He earned the right to participate in both the shot put and discus! First up was discus – where he PR’ed at 89’ and finished 5th or 6th out of 16 (he gets official results and ribbons next week). Then he went on to shot put where he was in the lead briefly during the final round but ended up 3rd with a PR of 37’ 4”! Way to go, Lukey!! He got back from the meet late after their team dinner while Ann & I took the other two to BWR for wings & beer night. We had an emergency at my work that night but thankfully everyone was OK.

We all had trouble getting up and getting ready on Wednesday morning. It was a foggy ride to work but was thankfully a fast day. I walked 3 miles after work on a sunny afternoon near 90! Matt & Bu went to the animal shelter and tried really, really hard to add a third dog to our family. Matt went out to dinner with an old buddy at ElRep and didn’t get back till after the nasty storms had subsided. Abby had a Pirateers meeting then went out with Megan until she met up with Annie at Dixon Dance for jazz class.
After storming all night, we had a much cooler start to Thursday. Abby was not feeling well so she ended up coming over to Columbus to see Ann & the docs. Matt enjoyed a day off. Luke had basketball practice. I walked 4 miles after work. And Ann & Bu attended one of the last tap classes at DDS.
Friday was absolutely gorgeous. It was another fast day for everyone. Luke went home with Laryssa then went out to dinner & a movie with her. Matt enjoyed one more day off but worked out. Abby had technique class then worked all night. I walked 3 miles then mowed the lawn. I was pretty tired afterwards. Ann and the girls from work had a surprise shower for one of their coworkers and she even brought home a masterpiece of artwork by the “BRK.” Matt & I had a few drinks, ordered a pizza and watched movies all night. Here are random pictures from this week’s adventures.

Matt slept in on Saturday morning then went in to work before going out with his buddies till late. Abby had dance class where she hurt her knee then worked until late at night in pain at BWR. Meanwhile, Ann & I drove to Westfield with Mr. Luke for a basketball tourney. The 7th grade tourney didn’t get enough entrants so they bumped us to the 8th grade tourney. That day was pool play. Up first, the boys faced Grand Park Premier 2022 Black. Luke was 0-2 from field with 8 rebounds and a steal. We were overmatched by the 8th graders and lost by about 25. We took a short break afterwards and enjoyed watching Collin’s older brother play on the Indiana Grind team (sponsored by Under Armor) who reminded me of the Globetrotters facing the Generals – it was so one-sided that they stopped the game with like 5 minutes to play after being up by 60. Next we played the KY Truth that was an amazing group of boys. They were late getting there and were not allowed time to warm-up. It didn’t matter; they were incredible and made us look silly. Luke was 1-3 from the field with 10 rebounds but we lost by like 50. Afterward we grabbed lunch at Culvers (love their cheese curds & ice cream!) and came back to town to attend Randall’s going away party out in BFE. It was great to see him and we still like the kid an awful lot. We had a beer and talked before leaving just as dinner was being served. We came home to take naps and do our weekly household chores. Here are some social media pictures from this week.

We enjoyed sleeping in on Sunday morning. It was Mother’s Day and we surprised Ann with vodka, chocolate, flowers (which the boys planted in the front yard) and took her out for dinner that night. Abby had to work 1st shift at BWR and Matt worked 2nd shift at Aspen Place. Ann & I headed back up to Westfield for tourney games with Luke and the 421 AAU team. Again, we were 7th graders playing in an 8th grade tourney, but the boys gave it their all. We faced the Miami team that was huge. The boys hung with them though and came out swinging. They actually jumped out to a lead that at one point was 7 points. They held the lead for most of the half, giving up a couple 3’s in the final seconds that pu them down at halftime by 4. The 2nd half was equally close until about the 4-minute mark when they began to pull away. We had a couple in foul trouble by that point and wound up losing by about 20. Luke was 3-4 shooting with six points, ten rebounds and had 7 fouls…but didn’t foul out somehow. We came home and chilled that afternoon. Luke took the dogs for a walk. Ann worked on scrapbook pictures and visited Mom & Sandy. I talked with Dad & Barb, Robby and tried to call Dad & Lynn but they didn’t answer and didn’t call back. Dad & Barb sounded like they’re doing good; we need to get up to see them. This is the start of Week 19, which really made us miss that Florida sunshine and the Sand Pebble. I got caught up on the DVR, watching the NASCAR & UFC events from this weekend as well as new episodes of Dr Who, Ancient Aliens and others. It was a very relaxing afternoon. That evening we took Ann out for her Mother’s Day dinner at our favorite restaurant – Buffalo Wings & Rings. We’ll have pictures of the basketball tourney next week. We have videos of the first two games (from yesterday) below but will have today’s videos posted next week. Here are the rest of the Prom / After Prom pictures of our lovely little Bu that we promised last week…

And that does it for this episode of the Scheu Family Blog. Thanks for keeping up with us this time out and we’ll catch up with you next time. Until then, have a good one. We miss ya, Mom.
Later, Scheu
