We’ve enjoyed another good week since we last touched base. Matt returned from his long weekend in North Carolina and enjoyed a few days of peace and quiet for the rest of his Spring Break. Abby had a full week of classes at Franklin. She had a couple doctor appointments this week as well. Luke had another surgery done this week and only missed a half day of school. Besides school, he split time with work, friends and Ms. Sarah. Ann got spend some time with friends, doing what she loves. She and I continue to endure either seasonal allergies or some sort of sinus infection that is causing constant sinus drip and with it comes incessant coughing and sore throats. Bryan & I finally got to tailgate at a ball game, like we had always planned. Molly had another rough week. She is so lethargic and isn’t eating or drinking much. She pretty much just sleeps most of the time. She doesn’t want to move. I have to carry her into the house and out as well. Gas prices seemed to finally level out a bit but is still right around $3 per gallon. We started the week with summer-like conditions, enjoying temps in the 80s. Then the rain moved in and the weekend was cooler with each passing day. At the time of this writing, it was only in the 40s – which is much more normal this time of year. I did not do as well with my diet this week but did manage to walk ten miles. Bryan is moving workouts to the morning for the rest of baseball season, so I’m not sure how many of them I’ll be able to make. It was good to get out and mow this weekend. I almost waited too long, as the grass was pretty tall in the backyard, which killed the mower twice. With the added exercise that comes with mowing, trimming and working outdoors, I hope to finally meet my exercise goals next week. Hello there; welcome to the latest installment of the Scheu Family Blog.
Monday was gorgeous with temps going up into the 70s! It was back to work and school for everyone. Well…everyone except Matt who was off on an adventure with Taylor in North Carolina up in the Smokey Mountains! Abby did her classes virtually and enjoyed what precious time she could muster with her Molly-kins. Molly mostly slept and didn’t feel like walking that day or even that night. We literally carried her outside then that night, I literally carried her back inside. She pretty much just laid on her blanket all day. She did give Molls a bath, which was very nice of her. After finishing her classes, Abs packed up all her stuff and drove back to the FC campus. Her COVID test was negative, so she gets to stay and complete her final semester of her junior year – yay! Ann & I both had great days at work. My morning flew by so quickly that I was caught off guard when Justin took me to lunch at China Buff. The afternoon was even busier and it was like I turned around and I was already late getting out to go walking. Even with the late start, I managed to get in just under two miles of walking. It was so nice outside that it felt like summer. There was a main water break in Greensburg that we learned about that afternoon. It was bad, too. It took several hours but they did manage to get it repaired. lUnfortunately, it meant there would be a boil-water advisory for the rest of the week. It shut down the school, which dismissed a couple hours early. It also closed most of the restaurants. We ran to CVS to get meds for Luke and Ann and even found a couple beverages for Abby: a 6-pack of Slangria and a bottle of the lemon wine like we enjoyed on Easter. We came home and tried to stay cool by sitting in front of the fan. We watched American Idol then flipped over to the big game. Ann didn’t feel well at all that day. She seems to have gotten the same thing that Luke had about a week ago then gave it to me at the end of last week and then I seem to have shared with her now. Except Ann got the worst of it, I think. It is an upper respiratory issue that is probably made worse by season allergies. Ann already has enough breathing issues as it is… I just hope it goes as quickly as it did for Luke & I. When I turned over to the basketball championship game, Ann went on to bed, worn-out from her day. Luke came home from working out after school and stayed in his room that night. The game was completely anti-climactic. Baylor played like a champion and Gonzaga was dragging from their OT win over the weekend. They were honestly never in the game. Baylor went up by 10 before the Zags even scored and they kept it at about 20 points the entire game. With that, Matt won both the big pot and the pitcher of margaritas. He’s off to a good start this week! Here are pictures from Easter Day last weekend.

Tuesday was another fast day. And it was another lovely day with temps very nearly hitting 80 degrees!! I did mostly IT work that day. Vic was back from his vacation, so we got caught up with him for a while. It sounds like he had a good time in Florida. Luke returned to school, despite the boil-water advisory still being active. We had a short day at work, as we left early to take Ann to her Prom / After-Prom meeting at the fairgrounds. She went into the livestock pavilion while I walked across the street to go play a couple rounds of frisbee golf. The wind was very challenging that evening. I threw a 2-over 29 on the first round then a 2-under 25 to finish even for the day. I did get in about two and a half miles of walking then we came home and Ann boiled a couple big pans of water for use with the dog bowls, hygiene or whatever. Workouts were cancelled due to Bryan working on his new pavilion down by the pond. Ann and I wound up taking it easy instead that evening. She made Fireworks popcorn and cheese for dinner as we watched a few DVR’d shows like American Idol, NCIS NOLA, Manifest and FBI and Most Wanted. Luke ran around with his buddies that night and got home late. It smelled so awful that night as Bausback’s was cooking their roadkill and it stunk up the entire town…gross!
We were up early and out the door together as we took Luke to the oral surgeon in Shelbyville on Wednesday morning. Molly had made quite the mess in the living room overnight. It took me a good 10 minutes or so to get things cleaned up. After dropping Luke off for his procedure, Ann & I went downtown for breakfast at little greasy spoon called Shirley’s Chaperral Café. It was really good! We ran to their Walmart and putzed around until it was time to pickup Lukey. He was funny when he got into the car. We had a lot of trouble understanding him so we had him text us – LOL. He made us promise to not take any videos, which we honored…but there may be a pic or two… ???? I dropped off Ann & Luke at the house so he could rest and she could take care of him. I ran to get meds and ice cream (two very important recovery supplies). When I got back, I worked from home at the desk in the family room. I stayed at it until it started to rain. It was another amazing day. The temps actually got into the 80s! I wonder if that was a record?? 80s in April…who’d have guessed that?! I got the dogs in and got Molly all cleaned up. When I got back to wrap up, my computer was installing updates so I called it a day. I got about half of my reports done and did some purchasing as well. Luke took a long nap, as did Annie. When they got up, we started watching a new Netflix show called Who Killed Sara while I edited pictures and videos for this week’s blog entry. We got through two episodes and into a 3rd before Luke gave it up and went to bed. Ann & I watched a couple of our favorite shows: SEAL Team and SWAT. Once she went on to bed, I watched Blacklist and turned in myself… Here are random pictures from our recent adventures.

Ann was ready to go early (she said she was just on time and not late like most days – lol). So, we were out the door and arrived at work early for once. With her rushing me out the door, I only had time to shower, clean up the dogs’ messes and balance the checkbook before we headed out the door. School was on a two-hour delay due to an inmate from the county jail eloping from the hospital during a doctor appointment. She was captured without much incident and the kids were allowed to attend school later that morning. Luke was allowed to take the day off of school, but he felt pretty good so he got up and took one of his friends to school, went to get something to eat and came home to rest before going in for a half day. After school, he did not attend the baseball game but instead watched the track meet since Brayden and Sarah were both participating. I asked if anyone had reached out to him to be a thrower and he said yes and that he was contemplating it but had not yet made a decision. After the meet, he took Sarah out for dinner in Columbus. Meanwhile, Matt and Taylor returned from North Carolina to relax and get some rest before heading back to work next week. Abby’s knee is still bothering her and she finally made an appointment with the doctor for tomorrow. She was mad as a hornet at one of her professors because although she can attend the class virtually while she is driving to her appointment in Columbus, she will be penalized for missing the class. I thought it was funny that he was exerting control over her even though she and her classmates pay his salary. Ann & I had fast days at work. I got all my paperwork caught up by lunchtime and then Justin & I took Vic out for his birthday lunch. We were headed to Culvers, over on the east side when we went past Chicago’s Pizza. On a whim, the guys had me call them to see if the buffet was open yet and to our surprise, they said yes! They had been reopened (the buffet) since Monday!! The afternoon flew by and as the storm front moved out (it rained on and off all day), I went outdoors and walked about three and a half miles on another pretty day. Granted, there were clouds, but the weather was warm with a cool breeze. The only thing missing was the temps to be low enough for me to wear a sweatshirt to make it perfect. ???? I was actually looking forward to working out and of course to play some poker with my buds, but Bryan was at the baseball game – their 3rd in a row…and they have one tomorrow too! Bryan did ask if I wanted to road trip with him to South Ripley tomorrow night and stop at the Napoleon Tavern on our way home. I hope to have all my work done tomorrow by the time he wants to leave… Instead, we cleaned-up the house. With Annie rushing me out, I had to catch up on dishes, laundry and then with Luke being off a half day, we had to clean-up after him…and of course cleanup after the dogs. By the time I finally sat down, it was after 6:30. Ann took a nap and I worked on this week’s blog entry, finishing up with the pix and vids editing. We took it easy with the dogs that night, trying to stay cool without turning on the a/c yet. We watched a few shows, including NCIS and the return of Queen of the South until we were both tired that we went to bed early. Here are pictures of recent additions to my Hot Wheels collection.

Luke went back to school for a full day on Friday, as he said he was feeling good. What a trooper! He had a good day then went to work at Hibbett’s that night. Later, he met up with Sarah and they came over to visit with Ann and watch a movie on the big screen. Meanwhile, Ann & I worked in Greensburg that morning. I dropped her off downtown and came home to work from the family room with the dogs. I worked on a couple reports and even surprised myself with how much I was able to accomplish. I could get used to this! I picked her up that afternoon and we went to lunch at ElRep. I had a margarita with my lunch and came home to finish up work. Ann needed the desk and computer to procure and print off new pictures for scrapbooking. So, I took advantage of the free time and mowed the lawn. I won’t lie – I was tired. It was hot and sunny and even though I’ve been walking, I used muscles I haven’t used in a while. And the damn mowers went faster than I wanted to walk. I couldn’t find a setting for fat, old guy speed – LOL. I finished up, threw the mower in the truck and drove Betty White over to Mom & Sandy’s house to mow there as well. Dee was there visiting but Maryann came out and brought me a tall glass of homemade tea and a Hot Wheel car. ???? She’s so cool… By the time I was headed back home, the skies opened up and let loose a downpour of rain. I really need to get a new wiper blade on the old girl… By the time I finished showering, it had stopped, thankfully. The Pirates varsity baseball team had a game down at South Ripley that evening. Bryan invited me to join he and Angie to go watch the game. Drew was the starting pitcher that night. It was hot and sunny to start the game but quickly another storm blew in. After a handful of lightning strikes and one big thunder boomer, they put the game into a delayed state to keep everyone safe during the top of only the third inning. At that point, Drew had given up 4 runs (a couple due to errors on his defense) and struck out a pair. He had also gotten his first high school base hit earlier in that inning. The score was 2-4 with one on runner in scoring position and the tying run at the plate. We retreated to the SUV and tailgated as we waited for the storm to pass. Unfortunately, about 20 minutes into the delay, they decided to call the game. Being a non-conference game, it is uncertain whether or not the game will be resumed at a later date or not. We were going to stop at the Napoleon Tavern on our way back to town but decided to dine on the outside patio of the Sunken Boat Bar. It was a lovely sunset that night as we watched a couple more waves of storms roll through the area. Angie ordered Pizza King for dinner and Hanna was kind enough to go pick it up (since there was a 90-minute wait for delivery). Rick & Lynn (who just recently got home this week from Hawaii) joined us around the fire pit for a few hours. We enjoyed hearing stories and laughing over a few cocktails – all the while enjoying another lovely evening, basking in the stench of Bausback’s. Seriously, it was so gross…and has been all week, it seems. Bryan texted a close friend with a little pull in town and asked if there was something that could be done, so we’ll see… We called it an early night and I pretty came home and just went straight to bed. We have a bunch of social media pictures to share this week.

Having eaten some greasy pizza and had a belly full of rum, I wasn’t feeling so hot when Ann’s alarm started going off. I might be ready for the air conditioner as I spent much of the night with no covers and the fan blowing on me. I just have a hard time justifying it during the first week of April. Hell, we’ve had snow at this time of the year in the past. I hear it’s supposed to cool back down next week so I’m gonna hold off on opening up the crawl space and putting in the A/C’s for now. It was still a little odor-iscious that morning as I loaded up Ann’s scrapbook supplies into her Rhonda’s truck. They picked up Shawna and headed down to Lawrenceburg for their annual scrap trip. Luke got up a little later and went into work. I took it easy, drank a Gatorade or two and watched some DVR shows with the dogs. I received a new Metallica 45 in the mail that I played on the stereo at a level that Ann wouldn’t like. It was nice. ???? But not as nice as Bryan’s stereo out on the patio. He added a few new speakers and Holy Cow is it LOUD! We played a few songs at a level that Angie didn’t like. LOL!. That evening, he ran around with Kam and called me in a panic. The Hot Rod Lincoln was leaking power steering fluid and making a griding noise, which I assume is the power steering pump running dry. We’ll have to get it in to see Jerry next week. So, he and Kam swapped cars that evening and took the Barneymobile out on the town. Meanwhile, the dogs and I had a quiet day, watching DVR’d shows while writing out this week’s html code and checking in my new Hot Wheels. Ann & I had a quiet evening when she got home, catching up on our days and falling asleep watching TV. Gawd, we’re old…
Delilah was barking a little after 6 am on Sunday morning. I tried pushing snooze (ignoring her) but she persisted so I got up and let her out. And when I did, I found the daily messes from Thing 1 and Thing 2 as well. It took me every bit of 20 minutes to clean it all up – gross! Molly went out and wound up staying out all day. She didn’t even come in to eat – not for lack of trying though. I tried bringing her in a handful of times but she just ignored me. Ann eventually got up at some point before noon so we could start our weekly household chores. We tried to watch a show but Ann fell back asleep and I have to be honest, I may have nodded off a couple times myself that afternoon. It was MUCH colder. After a week of temps in the 80s, it was quite a smack in the face. It got so cold that morning that I even closed up the house. Luke got up about the same time Ann did and went into work at Hibbett’s. When Luke got home from work, he was hungry, so we ordered takeout from ElRep and he went and picked it up. When it started raining that evening, I had to go out and get little Molly from the backyard. She was pretty messy and very stinky. So, I had to give her an impromptu bath in the kitchen sink. She’s lost so much weight – the poor thing. With last weekend being the season finale of the penultimate season of The Walking Dead, that meant that this weekend was the premiere of the new season (#6) of Fear the Walking Dead (the spinoff series). I was saddened to see that that they killed off my favorite character – John Dorie. Still, it was a relaxing way to wind down the weekend and put a cap a nice, slow weekend…
Next up is our Waybac section, which features 2004 pictures form Dee’s first digital camera. We lead off in May – the Dixon Dance Revue; July – 4th of July fun, the county fair (with Duke Tomato) and Grace’s birthday party; August – Minnie & Charlie; October – Halloween Night; December – Christmastime fun.

And we wrap up with our video segment, which features one new home movie this week as well as several from around the internet.
And that does it for another episode of the Scheu Family Blog. Thanks for keeping up with us this time out and we’ll catch up with you again next time. Until then, have a good one and stay safe out there. We miss ya, Mom.
